Could emotionally-smart teachers change their students? See our first workshop on SEL with teachers

In the past few months, our team has been all over Malaysia in our quest to educate as many students & teachers in the most engaging way possible on topics we think is important: whether it's math & sciences, financial literacy, digital literacy, media literacy or even road safety!

But, one thing that remains constant across all these different literacies is how we integrate Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) approach throughout and that's where the magic lies! 

A groundbreaking initiative Arus is proud to collaborate with the Ministry of Education, with the support of Yayasan Hasanah & Ministry of Finance Malaysia is Program Guru KARISMA, an initiative to empower teachers with SEL skills as they lead their students. 

The first ever SEL Summit is in the planning for May 2025 and we are looking for partners, speakers and donors to make it happen. Email alina@arusacademy.org.my if you're interested to be a part of it.

Primary 5 students win €5,000 Road Safety Grant and compete on global stage

Arus designed, localised & implemented an engaging curriculum on safe mobility which saw 11-year-old students emerge as national level champions. The SJK(C) Kwang Hwa Sg Nibong Penang team won a €5,000 (~RM25,000!) grant to realise their ideas on how to improve road safety at their school vicinity. These passionate young advocates have earned the title of regional finals champion against India & South Africa and advanced to the global finals against Angola, Brazil, Lebanon, Madagascar, and Morocco, where they presented their innovative road safety solutions on an international stage, showcasing their ideas to global peers, policymakers, and industry leaders.

SBJCK x Arus: Learning beyond the classroom

At our model school Sekolah Buku Jalanan Chow Kit x Arus, we’re not just building academic skills, we’re teaching real-life skills that matter. In the last half of the year, our students have complemented their in-classroom lessons with real world experience through their 2nd Sports Day, Leadership Camp, volunteering opportunities & many more. 

Penang Maker Academy's first public showcase

For the first time, our Penang Maker Academy students exhibited their end-of-semester projects publicly at Mydin Bukit Mertajam. More than 100 of our students stood confidently as they showcased over 35 inspiring projects that help improve their local communities. Recap video coming right up!

Digital Literacy: Future Skills 4 All expands its access of coding knowledge to more schools in Selangor, Sarawak & for the differently-abled community. 

Happy to share that more parties are supporting our initiative to make coding knowledge truly accessible to all. In the past few months, Google, Sarawak's Ministry of Education, Innovation & Talent Development as well as the Special Education Division of the MOE have partnered with us to benefit even more students from Sarawak, Selangor & students with different abilities. 

Financial Literacy: First student-led finlit summit

Now in its 5th year, 100 pioneer Arus Student Council helmed the first ever financial literacy summit to be led by students for students. These Student Councils learnt what it takes to be a financial literacy advocate and used their voice to inspire other students to manage their money well too. Concurrently, teachers gathered among their peer learning community to share how they can run finlit lessons in the classroom.
